Hungarian Goulash

This recipe was given to me in 1979 by a woman who never cooked, but who realized that I like to cook. She asked me to make the recipe for us. She had gotten the recipe from an elderly Hungarian woman friend of hers.

Butter       1 cube
2 T.       Olive oil
1 1/2       Onions, sliced
2 T.       Caraway seeds
2 T.       Sweet Hungarian paprika
1 1/2 lbs.       Lean beef, trimmed of fat, cut into 1" cubes
3 oz.       Tomato paste
2 T.       Sugar
      Salt
      Pepper
      Water
      Egg noodles
